A series of museums relating to the coal and iron industries is scattered along the Ironbridge Gorge. The main attraction is Blists Hill Victorian Town. Life in the second half of the 19th century is recreated here. This Open Air Museum was opened to the public in 1973. It contains some of the best preserved industrial monuments, e. g. an old coalmine that once supplied the ironworks. Many of the exhibits at Blists Hill are buildings that were taken down somewhere and reconstructed here.

The majority of the structures original to the Victorian Town are along the line of the Shopshire Canal. The Canal was a route for the transportation of coal and other heavy goods to the River Severn.

At Blists Hill the visitor learns about the landscape, history and people that worked in a once thriving industrial area.
