Caenarfon Castle was begun by King Edward I of England in 1283. It is one of a group of imposing castles in North Wales. In 1969 the investiture of Prince Charles as Prince of Wales took place in the castle.

The story of  Conwy Castle  begins in 1283. In that year King Edward I conquered Snowdonia and terminated the rule of the Welsh princes.

Tretower Court and Castle

Conwy Castle
Tretower Castle

was one of many constructed during the Norman Conquest of South Wales.  The defences were enlosed on three sides by ditches and stretches of marshy ground.

In the 14th century Tretower Court  became the residential focus of the site, 180 m to the north west.  Together they demonstrate the transition from castle to domestic residence, and thereby reflect more peaceful times in later centuries..
