The Old Farmhouse

The Old Farmhouse

Centuries-old Family FarmhouseFarming has a long tradition in Wales. Food production is an important industry. New Stone Age folk were the first Welsh farmers. These Neolithic people, although still hunting and gathering, were beginning to rely on agriculture for their food supplies. Their oval and rectangular huts had already foundations of stone. The Anglo-Norman manorial system was introduced into Wales after the year 1283 when English armies of King Edward I (1272-1307) completed the conquest of Snowdonia. As a result stone cottages and farm buildings still dot the rural landscape. The old stone farmhouse (above) can be traced back to the Norman Conquest.

Grazing Cattle

The Welsh Black is the premier breed of cattle in Wales. It is a native British breed whose resilience and hardiness was developed on the mountains and uplands of Wales. The animals are hardy enough to live outside all year round. Welsh Black beef is reared naturally. They produce the high-quality beef for which they are so renowned.
