Isle of Arran

Isle of Arran

In August 1997 the Britannia sailed into Brodick Bay on what was her last voyage before the Royal Yacht was decommissioned. Arran welcomed Queen Elizabeth II and her Royal Party on Brodick Pier. There were several occasions for the residents to catch a glimpse of Her Majesty, as she arrived at Brodick, at the Welcoming The QueenHighland Games, at Brodick Castle and at the Distillery.

The Isle of Arran is situated on the south west coast of Scotland. It is often referred to as 'Scotland in Miniature'. Arran has mountains and lochs, rolling hills and meadows. Palm trees grow in the warm climate of the Gulf Stream. The wildlife is outstanding with deer, otter and eagle. There are colonies of seals near coastal caves. Arran's history dates so far back that it becomes tangled in Celtic myths and legends of Scotland's past.
